Welcome to PS 161, Juan Ponce De Leon School. Our mission is to work in collaboration with one another to provide students with a safe, supportive, and joyful learning environment where children are intellectually stimulated and feel comfortable taking risks.

At PS 161, we are dedicated to nurturing every child's potential. We offer a dynamic learning environment that includes a Spanish Dual Language program, allowing students to learn in both English and Spanish throughout the day. Our focus on small class sizes ensures personalized attention for every student. We are proud to be "The Pride of the Bronx", and our vision is to be the bridge to your child's successful future.
Rigorous Instruction & Support
We offer rigorous instruction paired with intervention and enrichment to meet every child's needs. This includes dedicated ELA and Math WINN (What I need now) time to meet the needs of students who need intervention, as well as those who are excelling. We also work with CUNY Tutors to provide more intensive reading intervention for students in K-2.
Dual Language Program
Our Spanish Dual Language program immerses students in both English and Spanish, fostering bilingualism and biliteracy from a young age.
Comprehensive Support Services
We provide a range of services to ensure every child can succeed, including:
- Integrated Co-Teaching classrooms
- Special Classes in a 12:1 setting
- SETSS, Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Counseling services
